Some days, especially when nothing seems to go according to plan, accidents happen. When you lock yourself out of the house or you drop your keys before slamming your car’s trunk closed, there’s no need to fret. Your local locksmith can come pop the lock and get you back on track quickly and easily. But that’s not all we do! Just think, how dull would it be if all we did day-in and day-out was unlock cars and houses? It may sound oversimplified, but if it involves a lock or key, odds are good we can help you out. But some days are more exciting than others. Here are a few of the more exciting locksmith services that most don’t know about:
We Break Into Buildings
Well, yes, if you want to get into technicalities, any time a locksmith pops a lock, we are breaking in. But that’s not what we mean in this instance. One of the more thrilling parts of being a locksmith is breaking and entering—legally! Many locksmiths work with the police to copy keys and open locks so police can place surveillance equipment. While it’s no James Bond action, helping out the police still makes us feel like we’re in a spy movie.
The Best Lock Isn’t High-Tech
One of the questions we get asked over and over is what we suggest for improving your home security—and the answer is simpler than you think. Though it may surprise you to learn, the standard deadbolt lock is one of the most secure lock options out there. However, that’s only the case when the deadbolt is installed properly. Want to know a secret? Contractors are not great about installing deadbolts the right way. More often than not, they cut corners, and your locks are not as secure as they should be. If you really want to make sure your home is secure, make sure your deadbolt goes into the door frame at least a full inch, and make sure the security plate is attached with a minimum of three-inch screws.
Safes Aren’t As Exciting As Movies Show
It may seem like something out of a movie to find an old locked safe at an estate sale or auction. But don’t start thinking that’s your way to get rich quick! That locked safe is still locked for a reason, and it will likely cost you a couple hundred dollars for your local locksmith to get it open, and usually, all you’ll find inside are spider webs. Unfortunately, older safes often need to be drilled to open, so we may not even be able to make it useable again. So, if you like the safe as a decorative touch, bid to your heart’s content, but don’t think you’ve found hidden treasure.
We Can Make Car Keys Too
That’s right, when your car salesman told you only a dealership can repair or replace your car keys, he was just trying to get a future sale from you. If you have an electronic key fob, then yes, an added layer of attention and care is needed to repair or replace your car key. However, car dealerships aren’t the only ones with the technology to do so. Most mobile locksmiths can come to you, fix your key or replace it, and get you on the go again. No waiting for hours at the dealership; just give us a call!
